Accessibility

Accessibility Connecticut Science Center is fully accessible to all visitors. We offer exhibits, videos, audios, visuals, tactile components, programs, live demonstrations, and personal interactions with CSC team members that reach all learning styles and levels of interest.

For those who need it, there is a passenger drop off and pick up area in front of the building at the Columbus Boulevard entrance as well as a limited number of wheelchairs for use on a first come, first served basis. Please stop by Security Desk when you arrive for more information.

Benches are located throughout the Connecticut Science Center for your convenience.

Licensed guide dogs for the blind and service dogs for people with disabilities are welcome in the Connecticut Science Center.

If you need assistance operating an exhibit, or have any questions while visiting the Science Center, please ask any team member (identifiable by uniform shirt and photo ID badge) and they'll be happy to assist you.

Other accessibility features include:

  • Infrared Assistive Listening Devices for theater presentations (available on request).
  • Specimens, artifacts, and replicas available for touch.
  • Exhibit display panels positioned for comfortable viewing from a wheelchair
  • Exhibit information in both visual and audible forms
  • Ticketing facility accessible to wheelchair visitors

Adult Supervision

Children under the age of 18 must be supervised by an accompanying adult at all times during their visit. Please report missing children at the Security kiosk on the Lobby Level of the Science Center, or contact any staff member for immediate assistance. If appropriate, teach young children how to identify staff members and encourage them to find us if they can't find you.

Strollers

We strongly encourage the use of baby slings, or frontal infant carriers as alternatives to strollers. The interactive nature of our exhibit galleries does not easily accommodate oversize, side-by-side double seated, or jogging strollers. There is also very limited stroller parking. If you must use a stroller, please consider using a lightweight “umbrella” stroller. For everyone's safety, strollers are not allowed on the escalator or in the movie theater Lobby.

Family Restrooms & Changing Stations

Changing stations are located in every restroom (both men's and women's). Additionally, levels 4 + 5 have designated private family restrooms for special needs.

Nursing Areas

Nursing mothers are welcome to nurse their children throughout the Science Center. If you would like a spot with a little more privacy, visit our security kiosk on the Lobby level. A security officer can shown you to a First Aid Station in the Lobby. A more private nursing area is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Family Meeting Places

Prior to starting your exploration, we recommend your family identify and agree to a spot in the Science Center where you can all meet in the event your family becomes separated.

Safety & Security

All Bags are subject to search. On Science Center premises, we do not allow weapons of any kind or any items deemed dangerous or inappropriate by our security staff. Guests found with prohibited items will have the option of returning them to their vehicles, or discarding them at the entrance (they will not be returned.) Therer is a Security Kiosk on the Lobby Level staffed with Security personal happy to assist you. For Immediate safety/security need, please alert any CSC staff member for assistance.

First Aid

There is a first-aid station on the Lobby Level of the building. If you need any medical assistance while at the Connecticut Science Center, please alert a staff member immediately, and they will get you the appropriate help.

Cell Phones

Please be considerate when using a cell phone; step into the nearest hallway or public area when making or answering a call. Please do not take a call in a gallery or exhibition space. Please silent your cell phone in our Theater.

Photography & Videotaping

Commercial production are required to obtain prior, written permission.

Lockers

Our lockers hold luggage with a maximum size of 10” x 10” x 34”. For safety and security reasons, CSC cannot hold bags anywhere in the Science Center.

Lost and Found

Any personal items found by CSC staff will be held in the Security Office for 10 days. Please call the Security office at (860) SCIENCE (option #8) to claim lost items.

Smoking & Tobacco Products

Smoking and all tobacco related products are prohibited everywhere within the Connecticut Science Center, and smoking is not allowed within 25 feet of the building.

Pets

For the health and safety of all visitors and staff, and for the well being of the animals themselves, pets are not allowed in the Science Center. Licensed guide dogs for the blind and service dogs for people with disabilities are welcome.

Hand Sanitizers

Touch and experiment with all the exhibits without fear. Just remember in this cold and flu season to wash your hands thoroughly and often. Hand sanitizers are located on the glass bridges near the elevators for your convenience. Restrooms are located in each gallery
