You know how your friends get all glassy-eyed every time you share your fascination about robotics or black holes or plate tectonics? And what about the way your family shake their heads when you insist on watching a cable special on Newtonian physics? They don't get what you see in this stuff. Well, we've got a few folks you can talk with to not only share your fascination but are here to make science accessible to everyone. Our Gallery scientists are the kind of people who get jazzed when an extrasolar planet is found, a new genetic code is discovered, or a new device is invented. And they can't wait to twitter about it, put it on their Facebook or blast out an e-mail. Check them out, come in and meet them, and stay connected with them.
Specialty: "Going Mach Five with his hair on fire," is how my friends described me in high school. I love all things fast and not of this Earth – airplanes, astronomy, space travel and planetariums. I wouldn't say I have a specialty. I'm more jack-of-all-trades – master of none. I love creating learning environments, whether it's with a planetarium show, floor demonstration, videocast/podcast, airplane flight or a guitar. My wish is to inspire everyone to make this a better world, full of peace, fun, connectivity, discovery and support. READ MORE >
Specialty: I was the kid that never stopped asking questions. When most boys are young they want to be a firefighter, or a baseball player, or a superhero. Not me. I wanted to study Animal Behavior. After telling my mother she laughed and said "that's not real" and I was probably going to have to be a teacher. Turns out I could do both. READ MORE >
Specialty: I'm a student of life. I'm a biologist interested in the how and why of living things and their surroundings. There's amazing diversity in incredible places - whether it is a tiny drop of a fluid, a puddle of water, under a rock, inside an animal's gut, or in your own backyard. I love the magnificence of life. I harbor a deep sense of admiration and respect for it, and a desire to keep discovering more and more about it. We have the opportunity to uncover answers to questions that relate to our own problems, everyday issues and existence right here, right now. That's why I love being a biologist. READ MORE >
Specialty: When I arrived in middle school, I got hooked on the phrase “chemical engineer” because who wouldn’t want to work with chemicals? A few years of school and a couple of amazing teachers later I realized that I liked explaining the science of what goes on at an itty bitty level more. I love chemistry - any sort of science where you can get color changes, bubbles, and explosions in one set of reactions is fun, and it helps you understand the world around you. Not to mention the bad jokes: Why do white bears dissolve in water? Because they're polar! (Come visit and find me, we’ll talk about it). READ MORE >
Specialty: As a child, I was always curious about how things worked and how my surroundings had formed. I experienced my share of cuts and bruises as I ventured outside and inspected everything that caught my eye. Perhaps it was my curiosity (or a few too many bumps to the head) that led me to become passionate about physics and the earth sciences. READ MORE >
