Physical Science Content Workshops
These are weeklong workshops dealing with the underlying scientific principles behind the content standards in the CT Science Framework. Participants will be taught through the inquiry method. The goal of these workshops is to help participants deepen their understanding of these scientific principles through inquiry.

3.1 Properties of Matter
Materials have properties that can be identified and described through the use of simple tests.
This is a five day content workshop focused specifically on standard 3.1, which focuses on the concept of properties of matter. By participating in this inquiry-based workshop, you will deepen your understanding of this standard, and more importantly, be better prepared to guide your students to an in-depth understanding of this concept as well.
During this workshop, you will have the opportunity to experience multiple inquiries that will guide you to a deeper understanding of this science concept. In addition, you will then have an opportunity to process the inquiries as a teacher and discuss their applications in your classroom and in your students’ learning.
You will also experience the integration of language arts and science through vocabulary, non fiction texts and science notebooking.
Come for the week and collaborate with other Grade 3 teachers across the state, as you design and develop your own inquiry-based lesson to be used in your classroom with your students.
4.4 Science and Technology in Society
Electrical and magnetic energy can be transferred and transformed.
This is a five day content workshop focused specifically on standard 4.4, which focuses on the concept of magnetism. By participating in this inquiry-based workshop you will deepen your understanding of this standard. More importantly, you will be better prepared to guide your students to an in-depth understanding of this concept as well.
During this workshop, you will have the opportunity to experience multiple inquiries that will guide you to a deeper understanding of this science concept. In addition, you will then have the opportunity to process the inquiries as a teacher and discuss their applications in your classroom and in your students’ learning.

5.1 Energy Transfer and Transformation
Sound and light are forms of energy.
This is a five day content workshop focused specifically on standard 5.1, which focuses on the concept that light and sound are forms of energy. By participating in this inquiry-based workshop you will deepen your understanding of this standard. More importantly, you will be better prepared to guide your students to an in depth understanding of this concept as well.
During this workshop, you will have the opportunity to experience multiple inquiries that will guide you to a deeper understanding of this science concept. In addition, you will then have the opportunity to process the inquiries as a teacher and discuss their applications in your classroom and in your students’ learning.
