OFFICIAL RULES

  • WHO CAN ENTER:  Entries are open to New England residents (Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Maine and Vermont).  Entries will be judged in five groups: individuals ages 6-9, 10-13, 14-17, 18 and up, and groups comprised of any ages.  Age is based on date entry is received. 
  • HOW TO ENTER: Imagine, design and build an invention everyone will want and/or need in 50 years, and take a photo of your model.  The model does not have to work, but it should be a realistic representation.  Models must be built using only LEGO® bricks and elements.  Models using anything other than LEGO bricks and elements will be disqualified. 

Attach a brief description (100-200 words) of your model, including its name, its function and why people will want or need it in the next 50 years.  Photos must be in color, no larger than 8" x 10."  No slides/transparencies/videos/electronic images will be accepted.  On the back of your photo, hand print (or label) your complete name, address and telephone number.

July 6, 2009.

Multiple entries are permitted; however, each entry must be different and must be mailed separately. 

Models submitted to the Individual category must be constructed by one (1) person only and must be submitted in the name of that one (1) person who built it.  Entries built by more than one individual will not be accepted in the Individual category.  All mailed entries become property of LEGO Systems, Inc. and the Connecticut Science Center (“Sponsors”).  Entries and photos submitted will not be returned.

Models submitted to the Group category must be constructed by a group and must be submitted on behalf of the classroom in the name of a teacher, principal, adult mentor or classroom parent.  Entries built by only one (1) child will not be accepted in the Classroom category.  All mailed entries become property of LEGO Systems, Inc. and the Connecticut Science Center (“Sponsors”).  Entries and photos submitted will not be returned.

  • JUDGING: Five (5) finalists in each category will be chosen to be onsite at the Connecticut Science Center on Saturday, Sept 12, 2009 to display their entries for the public.  These entries will be judged by a panel of local celebrities.  All judging will be based on: originality and creativity of design - 50%; engineering, construction and detail of design - 30%; description - 20%.  Five (5) Grand Prize winners, one (1) from each category, will be selected and they will receive a prize package including: an assortment of LEGO building sets, approximate value $500 and a Connecticut Science Center Premier 7 Membership.  Additionally, winning models will be displayed inside the Connecticut Science Center for 6 weeks.  Five (5) First Prize winners, one (1) from each category, will receive an assortment of  LEGO building sets,  approximate value $250, a Connecticut Science Center Premier 2 Membership.  Five (5) Second Prize winners, one(1) from each category, will receive an assortment of LEGO building sets, approximate value $100 and a Connecticut Science Center Season Pass 2-Pack.  

The five finalists from each category will be announced by Aug 7, 2009. 

  • PRIZES & APPROXIMATE RETAIL VALUES:
  • Five (5) Grand Prizes – An assortment of LEGO Building Sets (value: $500), Connecticut Science Center Premier 7 Membership (value: $225) and display of model at the Connecticut Science Center
  • Five (5) First Prizes – An assortment of LEGO Building Sets (value: $250), a Connecticut Science Center Premier 2 Membership (value: $100)
  • Five (5) Second Prizes – An assortment of LEGO Building Sets (value: $100), a Connecticut Science Center Season Pass 2-Pack (value $65)
  • All entrants – An Official LEGO/CSC certificate

Prizes consist of only those items specifically listed as part of the prize. 

  • GENERAL:  Employees of LEGO Systems, Inc., and the Connecticut Science Center and their affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising/promotion agencies and their immediate families and/or those living in same household of each are not eligible.  Void where prohibited by law.  All federal, state, local, municipal and provincial laws and regulations apply.  All prizes will be awarded and winners notified by mail.  Winner may make no substitution/ transfer of prize.  All federal, state, local, municipal and provincial taxes are sole responsibility of winners.  Sponsors are not responsible for lost, late, misdirected, mutilated or illegible entries.  Potential Finalists and a parent/legal guardian of each must sign a Release of Liability/Prize Acceptance Form and Affidavit of Eligibility certifying that entrant's submission is his/her own original work, that the submission has not won a previous prize or award and that he/she has followed Official Rules.  Affidavit and Release of Liability/ Prize Acceptance Form must be returned within five (5) days of attempted notification.  Noncompliance within this time/return of prize notification as undeliverable will result in disqualification and an alternate may be selected.  All winners (or parent/legal guardian if traveler is deemed a minor in his/her state/province of residence) must execute a Release of Liability/Publicity Release Form prior to receiving their prize.  Sponsors reserve right to substitute prize of equal/greater value.  By acceptance of prize, winner consents to use of name/likeness/entry material in any manner by Sponsors for publicity/advertising/ trade without further compensation, unless prohibited by law. By participating in this promotion, entrants agree to be bound by the Official Rules and the decisions of the judges.  By accepting prize, winners agree to hold Sponsors harmless against any and all claims and liability arising out of use of prize.  Winner assumes all liability for any injury or damage caused, or claimed to be caused by participation in this promotion or use or redemption of any prize.
