Professional Development
Field Trip Workshops
It is recommended that teachers planning a field trip to the Science Center first attend one of our professional development workshops designed especially for field trip visits. These workshops are opportunities for teachers to learn about the field trip programs offered at the Science Center and the pre and post visit materials that are available for classroom use. These resources compliment the exhibit experiences and align with the Connecticut State Science Framework Standards.
The field trip workshops are listed below by CT Science Framework content standard
Prior to bringing your class to the Science Center, you are encouraged to spend time at the Science Center by participating in a Field Trip Professional Development Workshop (each workshop lasts two days). In the workshop, you will discover all the exhibits and programs available to you and your students. You will also receive training in a field trip experience that is customized for grade level science content.
During these two days, you will have an opportunity to explore the galleries using our standards-based Trail Guides. Each of these guides leads you and your students along a pathway to enjoy the Science Center and maintain focus on your grade level or content standard.
You will also learn the pre visit, visit and post visit activities provided to you by the Science Center. You will process the various activities which you experience and discuss their application in your classroom and your students’ learning.
