Graphic Designer / Webmaster / New Media Visionary

Using a range of communications vehicles and media, this Visionary will provide design leadership by developing creative and innovative visual communications and content solutions that enhance and activate the Connecticut Science Center brand.

Design & Creative Responsibilities:

  • As a key member of the marketing team, serve as brand champion by ensuring consistent use of the creative and message throughout all communications;  initiate concepts that drive first-time and repeat visitation, corporate and individual donations, and word-of-mouth; provide creative oversight for various projects
  • From production to execution, manage graphic design for print collateral, print and online advertising, trade show booths, direct mail, and other projects; serve as primary point of contact for relevant vendors

Website / Online Management Responsibilities:

  • Manage daily operation of a vibrant, database-driven website; write and edit online content
  • Perform analyses of website communications and data on web usage to assess areas of high interest to Science Center constituents; make recommendations for changes and ensure quality control
  • Direct web interface with Science Center POS, CRM, intranet and other relevant software, as well as online interface with other marketing communications activities

New Media Responsibilities:

  • Monitor, identify and coordinate appropriate new media strategies to enhance the visitor experience, augment online marketing and fundraising, and increase brand awareness and website traffic:  video sharing, online chats, wikis, messaging and email campaigns
  • Develop and manage content on social networking websites such as Facebook, YouTube, MySpace, etc., as well as appropriate websites, online bulletin boards and blogs to increase brand awareness and drive online and on-site traffic to the Science Center

Qualifications

  • Passion for the Connecticut Science Center mission
  • Proficiency in sales/marketing, as well as the ability to liaison with multiple functions and individuals
  • Experience in a staff level position in a graphic design agency, as an independent, or in a communications department is preferred, but not necessary.
  • Active user of social networking and other online platforms that are relevant to the Science Center
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, organization and follow-through skills.
  • Proficient knowledge of typography, layout and color sense; experience in writing and proofreading
  • Knowledge of MS Office Suite, Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, desktop publishing software, HTML, Javascript, CSS, ASP, PHP, Flash and video editing software; knowledge of and interest in Search Engine Optimization
  • Understanding and experience with four-color prepress
  • Windows platform preferred
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including (occasional) weekends, evenings, and holidays
