Leaders Open NASDAQ:
STUDENTS RAISE STOCK FOR SCIENCE & MATHEMATICS
(New York, NY) April 29, 2008: At 9:30 a.m. today, leaders for the new Connecticut Science Center were joined by donors, supporters and star mathematics students from the state for the ringing of the opening bell at the NASDAQ stock market.
“When we started in 1970, NASDAQ had a similar mission to the Connecticut Science Center: leverage technology to drive information and power to the investor,” said the market’s Vice President Karin McKinnell. “The Connecticut Science Center will serve as a place of inspiration for those who may end up our next generation of innovators.”
Award-winning mathematics students from Connecticut celebrated with the Science Center: Madison Crocker and Ted Saltz of Weston High School; Nathaniel Fox, Geoffrey Jordan, Antonella Lisanti, Michael Lubin and Zach Weiner of Staples High School in Westport; Isaac Chou and Bhaskar Abhiraman of East Elementary School in New Canaan; and Ethan Kao and Rebecca Krentz-Wee of New Canaan High School.
Added Science Center President Sergi, “Literacy in mathematics, science, technology and engineering is critically important to the success of today’s students. Opportunities such as today – to come to NASDAQ and see the inner workings of a robust financial system – are the kinds of opportunities that inspire youth to consider careers in the sciences, and to think more broadly about how science is all around us.”
